Last month, London Met graduate Lou Dillon was awarded a Great Taste Award for her small-batch, craft-brewed kombucha brand Twisted Kombucha.
Lou is a London Met Food Science MSc graduate and registered nutritionist who founded Twisted Kombucha in 2019 after taking part in our Foodie Founder and Launchpad programmes.
Lou developed the concept for Twisted Kombucha through the Food Product Development and Processing module of her course, which focused on food analysis and food microbiology as well as product development and quality control.
Since launching Twisted Kombucha in its natural and purest form, Lou has expanded the range to include flavours such as Hibiscus and Lavender, Ginger, Pineapple and Cascade Hops, Butterfly Pea Flower, Strawberry, Hibiscus & Ginger.
The Great Taste Award judges look for truly great taste, regardless of branding or packaging and take into account texture, appearance and the quality of the ingredients.
When reviewing Twisted Kombucha the judges said, “’we liked the gentle fizz of this kombucha, which had an inviting ginger aroma. To taste, the ginger flavour was also compelling, balanced out by a touch of pineapple sweetness and the refreshing sour kombucha. It’s a very well-balanced and refreshing drink.’
They also highlighted Twisted Kombucha as a ‘lovely crisp and really refreshing drink” while also noting how the “flavours marry very well and complement each other perfectly. Delicious for a hot sunny day.”
Reflecting on her recent win Lou told us, “We are thrilled to have been awarded a Great Taste Award with a fabulous review. Our delicious ginger, pineapple and cascade hops is an award winning kombucha. I am over the moon with this achievement and to have my brand recognised with a reliable stamp of excellence among retailers, consumers and food buyers.”
