From handcrafted jewellery to unique homeware, 2020 gifted us with all the Christmas decorations and festive essentials you could shake a yule log at! The 2020 Christmas Market showcased an amazing collective of talented designer-makers from across London Metropolitan University.

Every year we offer London Met students and graduates the opportunity to trade at one of London’s famous Christmas markets, but 2020 threw us all a curveball with the global pandemic… We therefore decided to take the London Met Christmas Market online!

After receiving just under 100 student and graduate applications from across all areas of the university, we invited everyone along to an online session focused on how to set up and sell online. At the workshop we showed students how to set up their very own online stores, price their products, photograph their wares from home and dive into social media promotion.

Up until the launch on 30 November 2020, we worked closely with the students and graduates taking part to set up their individual stores from which they would sell their products. This way our festive traders could build stores with their own brand and personality while also it giving them the opportunity to learn and build stores which they could continue to sell from beyond the Christmas Market.

The Christmas Market was visited almost 3,000 times throughout 30 November – 20 December 2020 and amounted to two-thirds of our sellers making sales totaling over £1,100.

The 2020 Christmas Market was our biggest collective of talented London Met designer-makers than ever before and showcased the brilliant craftsmanship from our creative community. Whether it is one again online or returns to being in-person we excitedly look forward to our 2021 London Met Christmas Market.
