In the fourth week of Launchpad we focused on how to develop a brand.
“It’s a complicated and noisy world, and we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is. So we have to be really clear about what we want them to know about us.” -Steve Jobs
But how do you ensure an understanding that reaches your target audience? Colourful’s Emily Penny came by to describe what branding is, how to create it and how to link it to a set of values.
Emily vibrantly defined branding as “knowing what you stand for and bringing it to life through wit, theatre and attention to detail.” It’s what makes companies memorable, identifiable and innovative.
Emily made this tangible by showing the participants successful brands such as: (RED), Airbnb, Yooshi and Look Mum No Hands. These companies have made their brand a campaign in which they promote the soul of the organisation rather than a product or logo.
The morning ended with the business teams looking into their niche audiences and thinking of their brand’s values. A huge thank you to Emily for sharing these insights and inspiring the participants who are now building landing pages that reflect their brand values. They’ll continue to build and grow them from here.
