About the designer

Giulia Ballarin is a 3rd year BA Photography London Met Student from the School of Art, Architecture and Design.

I am a visual artist who enjoys analogue photography and particularly making photographic prints in the darkroom. I love the physical, slow and dedicated process of making those images. My products are mainly silver gelatine black and white prints, colour prints, cyanotypes, Lith prints and Polaroid emulsion lifts.

They all are unique, because made one by one. Each prints has slightly different details and colours and they are all very personal and unique.

Moreover, I sell a zine I made during the lockdown in 2020 called ‘Isolation’. The zine is a collection of moments captured during the lockdown, spending months without leaving my house. All the images are taken on film, however, been locked inside I didn’t have any chemical to process it and didn’t have a scanner to scan the negatives (and either a darkroom), so I have to find a way to manage to keep working on analogue. I started processing in my bath tub and in my kitchen sink, I created scanners using boxes, cards, lamps, books etc. It was a very hard but satisfying process which made me create even a stronger connection to film photography. I am particularly emotionally attached to the images displayed in the zine.
