Good news for the creative and tech startups here at Accelerator! Nesta has released a report – The Geography of the UK’s Creative and High-Tech Economies – showing fast growth in the UK’s creative, high-tech and STEM industries.
The report found that from 2011 to 2013, employment in the UK’s creative economy grew over three times faster than the rest of the workforce. Much of this growth was in London and the South East, areas which account for 43% of the country’s total creative workforce. Nesta also found that “31 per cent of high-tech economy employment is located in this area.”
Nesta’s report found that the high-tech economy was also growing faster than the overall workforce.
Why are these sectors growing so fast, compared to others? Nesta points out that people in these industries are often much more involved with innovating and creating which contributes to their growth. Read the full report here.
