During GEWUK week Accelerator hosted a Crowdfunding event in association with General Assembly. It was a great night packed with useful advice and tips to help us “make it happen” with crowdfunding!
Event participants learned how to develop their project or idea for crowdfunding success.
Crowdfunding is changing the creative funding landscape for entrepreneurs, media-makers, designers, startups, and tech visionaries. The room was filled with startups, designers and creatives wanting to know whether their idea is crowdfundable. We heard from industry experts from the world’s largest crowdfunding platforms as well as business founders talking from their experience on how they raised funds via crowdfunding.
UK Design, Technology + Hardware Manager at Indiegogo
Kelly Angood is the UK manager of Tech, Design and Hardware for Indiegogo- the world’s largest crowdfunding platform. As a maker herself she understands the product development process and is passionate about revolutionising the way products are made by giving creators and makers access to capital and a way to bring their exciting products into the real world.
Investment Associate at Seedrs
Shameel is an investment associate at Seedrs, working with entrepreneurs throughout the fundraising process as well as focusing on post-investment matters for Seedrs’ portfolio companies. He previously worked at Raileasy, an online rail ticket retailer and the accountancy firm BDO.
Howard is Co-founder & CMO of Adludio, a VC backed adtech company that is on a mission to transform advertising.
Prior to this he was Head of Marketing at a startup which he helped launch and grow to 6 million users in under a year. Howard raised $500k in 36 hours last year through Crowdfunding ($750k in total).
Daniel is one the founders of Niume, a blogging platform that aims to disrupt the way content is created and distributed online.
Since its launch, Niume has grown to close to 1 Million monthly readers, and now has tens of thousands of content creators. Niume closed its £170,000 seed round in June 2015 using crowdfunding platform Syndicate Room reaching its initial target in less than a week.

- Show proof of concept
- Learn about the Industry Trends that justify you solution
- Explain your business and make sure you illustrate the problem you are solving clearly
This event was delivered as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, a week of global activities that highlight and celebrate entrepreneurship and its social and economic benefits, including personal empowerment and job creation.
